1 Thessalonians 5:11a

"Therefore encourage one another and build up one another..."

WELCOME LADIES!

We gather here to share insights and questions and encouragement focusing on our personal Bible studies. We use this space to learn from each other and to teach one another in love and patience and understanding. Please limit your posts to topics related to Bible study, finding other outlets for your announcements and prayer requests (maybe we will set up another blog for those!).

This coming week we are going to be talking about how God is good.  Psalm 34:8 says, "O taste and see that the Lord is good;  How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!"

Our discussion:  How do we take refuge in the Lord?  What do we find when we get there?  Is it a place we should stay?

Really looking forward to your thoughts, questions and insights!

  1. A place I'd LOVE to stay! :) First thing I thought of when reading this scripture was how much better things COULD be if I took refuge in Him more. I often try to handle everything myself and am usually running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I don't take the time often enough to take refuge anywhere. But I know, if I did, not only would I personally feel better, but I would then be stronger and better equipped to DO more for others. I know I need to take more private time with Him and will make an effort. Thanks.

  2. His refuge, I think, is the only place we are truly safe. It's a place of peace, reassurance and provides me with a "fullness" that is indescribable........
It is a shame, as Linda said, that we get "tied up" in worldly things which bring out our insecurities, fears, judgements, anger, jealousy (works of Satan).
When I take refuge in the Lord, it is much easier to remain positive, happy, fearless and giving. Thanks for reading (and sharing).

  3. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, therefore we will not fear... Psalm 46:1,2
This Psalm is one of my favorite reminders of God's VERY PRESENT strength. Strength and peace from Him are available to us in Him, our place of refuge. The world is rough and battering--we need the strength and comfort God provides to survive our journey and do His will. God's strength and comfort are not unfamiliar places we need a GPS to find. He is near and ever present, readily available to us. Therefore we need not fear and we can be confident as we "be still and know that He is God" (v.10) It does behoove us, however, to be like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, and acknowledge that "there's no place like home." She had what she needed all along, nearby. So do we. We only need acknowledge this and take advantage of it.
As to whether or not we should stay in the place of refuge, God's refuge is portable. Unlike a hiding place that keeps us from interacting with the world until we gain the strength to battle, refuge with Him is constant, supplying us with what we need, and it follows us wherever we go. My vote is to stay within His shelter and invite people in to join me inside.
